Hello from Vocantas!
It has been a busy few months for the Vocantas team. We have been working hard on many exciting new projects to help our customers and businesses across Canada and the United States navigate through this global pandemic. We believe that we are all in this together and each of us must do our part. We would like to share some recent updates with you all!

Why Should Employers Be Concerned About COVID-19 Symptom Tracking
The governments of Canada and the United States have set new mandates and guidelines for employers to follow as a result of COVID-19. Under these guidelines, employers have the duty to keep workers and work locations safe and free of hazards. This has been extended to include keeping workers safe of exposure to COVID-19 through employee symptom tracking, when an employee reports symptoms or exposure to COVID-19.
If you are relying on your employees to self report – you are leaving your organization at significant risk. Preventing employees from coming to work locations with any potential COVID-19 symptoms is your best defense against the spread of the Coronavirus.
Tracking COVID-19 in the Workplace with Employee Symptom Tracker™ (EST)
This month, we launched our COVID-19 employee symptom tracking solution to aid businesses in keeping their employees safe and following governments’ new labour guidelines by helping track COVID-19 symptoms in workplaces and on worksites.
We designed EST to significantly reduce the administrative and reporting burden for businesses by offering a secure web-based solution allowing information to be easily collected from employees in real-time using their smartphone by automated voice or via text.
Results can be easily viewed on a secure website with a unique login and real time alerts are sent to managers if employees report that they have any symptoms related to COVID-19.
COVID-19 and Aging Adults
We have also been proudly working with the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA), a national research platform on health and aging based at McMaster University. Using our automated survey technology, the study is collecting data to gain a comprehensive picture of the spread and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 50,000 participants across 10 provinces are involved in this research.
“By using Vocantas’ technology and services, the CLSA has been able to expedite the data collection process and quickly gathering information on the symptoms of COVID-19 and the impacts of the pandemic on older adults across Canada,” said Raina, a professor in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact at McMaster and the scientific director of the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging.

Vocantas is also proud to have opportunities to work with the health and science research community on projects that bring advancement to the practice of medicine.
In 2014 Dr. Noah Ivers of the Women’s College Hospital in Toronto Ontario began a research project that followed patients with coronary artery disease to determine the most effective course of preventative treatments for avoiding future myocardial infarction.
Vocantas was pleased to work on the project with Dr. Ivers and his team, using the Vocantas interactive voice solution to connect with patients to ensure their adherence to the treatment plan.
